How long does baking soda last?
Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, typically has a shelf life of 2-3 years when stored in a cool, dry place.
Over time, baking soda may lose its potency and effectiveness as a leavening agent, which can lead to baked goods not rising properly.
To ensure that your baking soda is still effective, you can perform a simple test by mixing 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda with 2 teaspoons of vinegar.
If the mixture immediately fizzes and bubbles, then your baking soda is still good to use.
However, if there is no reaction or only a weak reaction, then it's time to replace your baking soda.
