High Altitude CALIBRATE Your OVEN

CALIBRATE your OVEN at Altitude…

Calibrating an oven at high altitudes can be important for achieving accurate and consistent baking results. Here are the general steps for calibrating an oven at 9000 feet:

Purchase an oven thermometer:

Buy an oven thermometer that is designed to measure temperatures accurately at high altitudes.

These thermometers are calibrated to take into account the lower air pressure and the corresponding decrease in boiling point of water.

Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and place the oven thermometer in the center of the oven.

Wait for the oven to stabilize and for the temperature to remain constant for at least 10-15 minutes.

This will ensure that the oven has reached a steady state and that the thermometer is accurately measuring the temperature.

Compare the temperature on the oven thermometer with the temperature set on the oven's control panel. If there is a difference of more than 10-15°F (5-8°C), you will need to adjust the oven's temperature.

Adjust the oven's temperature: If the oven is reading too high, you can decrease the temperature by 10-15°F (5-8°C) and test it again. If the oven is reading too low, you can increase the temperature by the same amount.

Repeat the process of testing and adjusting the oven's temperature until the oven thermometer and the oven's control panel are reading the same temperature.

Test the oven: Once the oven is calibrated, you can test it by baking a simple recipe, such as cookies or a cake, and checking for even baking and proper doneness.

It's important to note that the calibration process can vary depending on the make and model of your oven, so it's always a good idea to refer to the manufacturer's instructions for specific guidance.
